Well, in another five months, this project will be two years old and still ongoing. I remember being six months into this project, and thinking "I've come too far to give up now". In a way, I'm glad I didn't know how much more there was (and is) left, but I am continually getting closer to the end day by day.
My main reason for this article is to write about something that people who aren't programmers or into the game development scene can relate to, which I'll try to do more of when I can. The contents of this article will tell you about my scheduling for the next year and my ambitions for Project Errantry and Enckling.
The first checkpoint on my schedule is attending the Ohio Game Developer Expo, which starts officially on the 7th of this month. I am excited about what I'll learn from the speakers, the people I hope to make connections with, and what I'll observe from the event and video game booths.
Further away, I'll be working on the engine in hopes that I'll have it complete somewhere in the first quarter of next year. Though I want to make sure it's up to my standards, so it is a loose deadline. Then when the engine is complete, I'll create the demonstration map and give all of those who have signed up the link to it (if you haven't already, click here to sign up. It's free!). Due to the details I'll have to put into the map, it could take up to 2-3 months to complete it. However, the map itself will be a part of the game, so it will be time well spent.
Next up is my ambitions. My favorite type of game has always been "Action & Adventure" and "Role-playing Games", and there is a game (usually franchise) that people associate with that genre. Call of Duty (like it or not) has the FPS category, Elder Scrolls has the RPG category, Minecraft has the Sandbox category, and it goes on. So my ambition is for this project to be associated with the "2D Action RPG" category. This will require the best audio, graphics, gameplay and story.
To end on a high note, I was approved for freelancer pricing for the sound effects pack. I'll be getting 60,000 high quality sound effects for $0.025 per sound, which is an amazing deal. Everything is slowly falling into place.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
